Berkey Water Filters

Berkey Light that we have.

We purchased a Berkey Water filter a few months ago and love the water that comes from it. Our only caution is that when you pour the water into the top use a pitcher or something that will not put a lot of force against the filters. I used to use a big stock pot and just pour the water full force against the filters which eventually loosened the silicone seal around the base and they began to leak. To the credit of Berkey they replaced the filters at no charge. We purchased the Berkey through eFoods Global for $229 plus we received a 10% commission on it so it ended up being around $189. Here is info from the Berkey Home Page:

Berkey® Systems are the world’s most powerful and economical portable water purification systems providing powerful (up to LOG 9), reliable, and user-friendly water purification in both normal and hostile filtration environments. Berkey systems even kill viruses (up to LOG 5). Other systems don’t measure up to the Berkey quality and standards.

Berkey® systems are capable of purifying both treated water and untreated raw water from such sources as remote lakes, streams, stagnant ponds and water supplies in foreign countries, where regulations may be substandard at best. So powerful, these systems are able to remove red food coloring from water without removing the beneficial minerals your body needs. Perfect for everyday use in your home and a must in hostile environments where electricity, water pressure or treated water may not be desirable or available.

The unique Berkey® design combines the age-old process of micro-porous filtration coupled with modern state-of-the-art technology and the highest quality materials to bring you the finest water purification system available anywhere. The micro-pores within the self-sterilizing and re-cleanable Black Berkey® purification elements are so small that pathogenic bacteria are simply not able to pass through them.

The media within the elements remove contaminants by a surface phenomenon known as “adsorption” which results from the molecular attraction of substances to the surface of the media. The exclusive purification elements are also impregnated with proprietary “absorbing” media that promote IONIC “absorption” of pollutants within the micro-porous elements.
